General Questions:

What is Bear Dance Crafts and how does it work?
Bear Dance Crafts is a Canadian online mail order business that ships the largest colour selection of 100% wool felt, plus Waldorf doll making supplies, felt craft sewing kits, and more. All items on the website are stocked in-house and ship directly to you (PDF patterns will send to your inbox). Read more about Bear Dance Crafts on the Our Story page.

Is it safe to shop and place orders on Bear Dance Crafts website?
Bear Dance Crafts hold a privacy and security certificate from Let’s Encrypt which enables SSL/TLS encryption on the site. We can’t see things like what items are in your shopping cart, we can only see information after an order is placed. Payment processors like Stripe and PayPal keep your credit card information safe, as they are processed offsite and not stored on the Bear Dance Crafts website. Interac e-mail transfers are password protected and not on auto-deposit for security.

What is the Wishlist for?
The Wishlist is a way for you to keep a list of items that inspire you. You can choose to keep inspiring products there or add them to the shopping cart at a later time, if you so wish.

To add to your wishlist you will need to be on each individual product page to find the “add to wishlist” blue button. For example: for felt you will need to click onto the individual product, the wishlist button is not on quick order links such as pages with felt section displaying multiple products.
Once added to the wishlist, you can choose to “add to cart” via the blue button on the right, or delete with the “X” on the left, if you want to move them off your wishlist.

Why do you use cookies on you site and why do I need to use them to make an order?
The website is set up as an e-commerce website, and we do not collect your payment information on site. You will be redirected to a payment gateway, and we cannot access that information for best security practices. The cookies allow the website to retain your carted items, address and information while it processes the payment. That information needs to be sent back and forth, and the cookies allow that. All e-commerce site use cookies (even if they don’t use a cookie notice), we give you the least amount we can and you can opt out. Though ordering might not work is you disable them all. Do you sell my personal information?
No, we do not, we will never sell your information. We use information you provide to ship to you, and if necessary to contact you about an order issue. If you have ever received a spam email that looks like it came from Bear Dance Crafts, this is not us (and sorry!).

Why are some products measured in metric and others in imperial?
Most of the products are from Europe where metric is standard. We keep that standard, as metric is the official measurement standard in Canada. Sometimes we have products that arrive measured in imperial though, so then we usually keep the imperial measurement as it will be the most accurate. Products will be listed in the measurement they are sold in, with the corresponding alternate measurement system in brackets, which is always approximate.

Do you offer coupons or discounts?
Bear Dance Crafts doesn’t use coupons, as we find our customers appreciate if we are upfront about our prices and shipping.
No need to wait for a ‘Black Friday’ sale or something like that, we keep prices as low as we can all year round 🙂

Normally discounts are only offered for ‘on sale’ items and will be found directly on the product page with any applicable details.
Keeping it fair for customers who aren’t able to spend more to reach a discount threshold, we offer our best prices for everyone every day, no matter the amount.

Please not that sometimes fake coupons are found via google, but they are not our coupons (sorry!).

Orders & Payments:

Do I need an account to order?
No, you can also checkout as a ‘guest’. If you create an account it will allow you to access recent orders and make a faster checkout experience (storing shipping and billing addresses), but it is not required to place an order.

What currency is your site in?
We list and process orders in Canadian dollars. If you view the site in another currency you will still be charged in Canadian dollars. Link to Currency Exchange page.

What forms of payment do you accept?
Currently we accept a wide variety of cards and payment types through Stripe, including Link, Visa, MC, Apple Pay, Google Pay, etc. You can also choose PayPal for credit cards or use a PP balance. We also accept Interac Email Transfer from Canadian banks – you will be mailed a code to use as the answer t o a security question (if you choose your own please email us the answer).

How can I make an order?
1. E-cart: Order directly from the online catalogue with the shopping cart. Use the “add to basket” button to add items to the shopping cart. When ready, review your order in the checkout and fill in your shipping and payment information.
2. E-mail: If you would prefer to skip the website shopping cart you can email your order in via Contact Us. As we will need to manually calculate the order, including figuring out the shipping by typing up a quote request (with size and weight of package plus destination), this can take a little more time to do. It’s possible, but not always fast.
3. Phone: Please only phone M-F 9am-5pm PST. Note: sometimes the voicemail is wonky, email is better. Phone number can be seen on phone (we don’t want bots calling).

Shipping & Returns:

Where do you ship from?
Bear Dance Crafts is located in Westhome in the Cowichan Valley on Vancouver Island, BC, Canada.
We ship all orders from post offices and courier drop locations in the area (unfortunately we lost our post office location in Westholme).
There are no extra fees or taxes when we ship to you in Canada, as your order will be shipped by us to you.

Where do you ship to and how do you ship?
Canada (all provinces and territories) and some international countries. Read much more information about shipping options and shipping related information on the Shipping page.

Can I add onto my order?
As we don’t store your payment information on the website (for security), we can’t add onto you order. Please make another order. We will happily combine and refund shipping overages when possible (note: sometimes lettermail orders combined still ship separately and need more postage). No need to ask, we’ll see another order (usually, but if you want to add a note that’s handy!) and assume you’d like to save on shipping if possible.

Can you change the ship to address after an order is placed?
Please email your request as soon as possible, as we can sometimes be packing orders quickly to get them out asap when we can. Please do not leave a phone message to change a shipping address, we require it in writing.
If your order has already shipped it’s too late, but anything not shipped can be changed. Please note that order updates to let you know your order has shipped might not be done until many hours after your item has been dropped off. Orders are not always scanned timely for packages with tracking with Canada Post either, sometimes they take them and scan them in the middle of the night or at the next depot. Once handed off, mail can not be retrieved, it’s not permitted.

After an order is placed, how long does it take to ship?
Usually orders are shipped within 1-2 business days. Please refer to the dedicated Shipping page for more details on shipping. If we are taking a break there will be a note on the website header.

How do I get a PDF pattern as they're not shipped and how do I view it?
Once a downloadable PDF product is purchased  and payment completed you will be emailed a link to download your pattern. If you didn’t receive your link or you lost your PDF download, please send a request to have your PDF resent to you via the Contact Us page and your order number. A PDF is a digital document that you can open on your computer, tablet or phone with a document reader such as Adobe Acrobat [PDF reader: The original PDF solution | Adobe Acrobat Reader].

Can I come shop in person?
Sorry, no. We have limited space and it’s set up to pack and ship orders as efficiently as possible and not as a showroom. We don’t even let the dog in, and she is family and support staff :).

Can I pick up an order?
As we don’t have an easy and secure pick up off-site (for insurance purposes), we do not offer a pick up option. In the past we tried to offer meet up times, but unfortunately it is then sometimes delays online orders from being shipped on time.

Do you take returns or exchange items?
Returns and exchanges are accepted within 30 calendar days, with some exceptions. Please contact us about making a return prior to returning an item. Forced returns not accepted, you must contact us before making a return. Mainly this is so we know it’s on the way, who it’s from, and that you are sending directly back to the correct address.

Items being returned must be in saleable condition, preferably unopened and in the original packaging within 30 days of your purchase. Please include the receipt, or a note referencing your order number, so we can find your original order. If 30 days or more have passed since your purchase, a refund or an exchange will not be accepted.

Upon receipt of the returned item, we notify you via email (or phone), within a reasonable period of time, whether you are entitled to a return or exchange. If you are entitled to a return, we will refund your purchase price and a credit will automatically be applied to your original method of payment. If you are exchanging an item, your new item will be sent asap. Examples of items that would not be accepted are pizza stained doll knit, items with smoke smells, felt that has been cut, etc. If you’re wondering, those are actual examples of what’s been returned in the past (I know!).

Only regular priced items may be refunded. Sale items are non-refundable.

Refunds (if applicable): You will be refunded, or partially refunded for the goods ordered (as the case may be), not including shipping (unless agreed upon, such as in the case of a defective item). You are responsible to pay shipping on the original outgoing order and the cost to return the order. Refunds will be made in the same manner in which the order was paid. If you are receiving a credit card refund it can take several business days to show up on your end. Please contact us if you are owed a refund and it didn’t appear to come through.

How do I use my gift card?
If you have received an electronic gift card, you will have received a code with it. The gift cards are designed to be redeemed directly on the cart page, where you will see a field to apply the gift card code. Enter your unique code and click apply. The gift card balance is then applied to the order total.
